ABOUT OUR BOARD
KAREN MORELAND
PRESIDENT
Karen has a BS in Music and Theatre and is living proof of the value of a liberal arts education, having spent the majority of her professional career as a senior executive in the precision manufacturing industry. After performing on-stage in a variety of community and semi-professional productions, she followed the lure of commerce and helped grow a small St. Louis company into a global leader in its industry. She now divides her time among business consulting, supporting Ovation Theatre’s mission to change lives through theatre, and setting up a home in Rancho Bernardo with her husband and fellow adventurer, Tim. They love experiencing both professional and amateur fine arts, and would never miss an Ovation Theatre show!
PAMELA LAURENT
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Pamela Laurent co-founded the Voice Studio and North County School of the Arts (NCSA) with her husband and professional actor/singer, Scott Gregory. Ovation Theatre (OT) was created when they both realized their experience on and off the stage could help pave the way for emerging artists, students and performers of all ages in the community. One of the goals of OT is to provide professional quality musical theatre training to students and, as a result, create professional quality productions for the students and for the community.
Pamela received her BS in theatre and music at MacMurray College in Illinois and went on for her masters work in voice at the University of Illinois. Professionally, Pamela performed in musicals and operas in the US and abroad. She sang the role of Mme Giry with the international cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera in Hamburg, Germany for more than 500 performances. On the operatic stage, Pamela performed leading roles with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Whitewater Opera, Seattle Opera, National Opera Company, and Lyric Opera of San Diego.
SCOTT GREGORY
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Scott Gregory, Co-Executive Director and Music Director for Ovation Theatre (OT), has been involved with music and performing in San Diego for over 20 years. He co-founded the North County School of the Arts (NCSA) with his wife, Pamela Laurent, and together they have helped created a thriving performing arts community based in Encinitas. Ovation Theatre evolved the performance arts area of the NCSA with the help of Mike Farber and the Musical Theatre Foundation.
With his B.S. in Choral education from Dickinson State College in Dickinson North Dakota, and his M.M in Voice Performance from UNM, Scott sang around the world for 20+years.
Scott and Pamela moved back to the States to raise their family. Now in its fourth year, Ovation Theatre has built an excellent reputation in San Diego for the quality and professionalism of their productions.
BETH FAINBERG-GLENER
SECRETARY
Beth got involved with NCSA in 2009 when they presented their second musical, Seussical and her daughter was almost eight. She caught the bug and has not looked back! Beth has been production coordinator and house manager, ran music, been on stage once or twice, and tried to support every production as much asshe could. It was a wonderful way to help while spending time with her daughter. When NCSA transitioned to Ovation Theatre, she became a member of the Board.
JENNIFER SUTTON
TREASURER
Jennifer Sutton works part time at her own accounting consulting business. She is very passionate about philanthropic work especially in the community in which you reside. She is currently the President of the Ovation Theatre board. She took this position because she feels very strongly about what performing does for these actors and what exposure to the arts does for the community. She is the mother of three children that have all enjoyed the various aspects of Ovation Theatre. She is also involved in other charities. She is Business Manager for Technology Goddessess, Audit Committee Chair for Serving Seniors of San Diego, and started her own charity called Caring Families Share to allow families to volunteer in the community.
BARBARA GREGORY
BOARD MEMBER
Barbara has been involved with Ovation Theatre since it’s humble beginnings as NCSA. For it’s first show, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Scott brought her a stack of T-shirts and an assortment of fabric paints with the request to make them look like the outfits worn in the comic strip. This has evolved into her creating the costume for Lord Farquaad (Shrek), for Prince Christopher (Cinderella), for Cinderella's and Rapunzel's Prince (Into The Woods), and knitting the Yale sweater for the bulldog in Anything Goes. Shes also assists with auditions and call-backs, and take Director’s notes during tech week. Barbara is always proud to say that she is the Mom of Scott Gregory and Pamela Laurent, and Grandma of Samantha Laurent and Dashiell Gregory.
It’s her greatest wish to find the funding to build a state-of-the art Performing Arts Theater in this area to serve the many needs of Ovation Theatre as well as those of other theater groups, businesses, etc.
GUY MANGIAMELE
BOARD MEMBER
Guy is originally from Omaha, Nebraska, and holds a BA in Social Science from Simon’s Rock College, and an MS in Design from The Institute of Design in Chicago. In his early career he assisted for many notable photographers, and finally struck out on his own to photograph and write for eleven international automotive magazines while living in Italy and traveling most of Europe. He now manages a car-testing company for a living, and is often their on-camera talent in content they produce for manufacturers. Yet the arts remain closest to his heart, and thus his dedication to Ovation Theatre and the inspirational quality of its projects. When not shuffling his daughters back and forth for their singing, dancing, and acting, he enjoys photography, film-making, flying, running, and cycling. Cooking and eating—both arts in and of themselves—are also high on his list of preferred activities!
